Tip of the day - Flameout warning from telemetry
31 Jan. 2013 13:45
I have a Tomahawk Designs Futura 2,5 equipped with Jeti R18 and fly it with the DC-16. I have implemented the MUI30 sensor to measure the current + voltage to the fuel pump as fuel gauge according to the tip on the Jeti website.
While I was programming the alarm for low fuel in the DC-16, I also had the idea to use the amp-draw information from the MUI30 as a flameout warning.
This can be handy at bigger events with several jets in the air at the same time, or just when flying around on low throttle. It can be hard to immediately hear the turbine shutting down under those conditions, leading to a loss of airspeed that could make it difficult to glide it back to the landing site.
My fuelpump draw 0,8-1A at idle rpm and the alarm trigger is set to <0,5A. So if the ECU shut down the fuel pump (due to any reason), I get a audio warning "Warning, flameout!" (custom sound).

Hi Feffe,
quite interesting idea. Guess this can also work for gasoline engines wih ignition.

Sure, also possible
With MUI you cann check both Ampre check to see if ignition still work and Voltage and Capaticy check to see if Accu is still still able to run also for the next flight e.g. Glider-Schlepp(pull).
Nice to see that we can go for several possibilities

That is one of the great things with the Jeti products, the only limitation (almost) is your imagination!
In a multi-engine aircraft this type of engine-out warning can mean the difference between a successful landing and a crash.
