JAVA/ANDROID receiver/sensor update program
10 Apr. 2017 18:36I am new to this forum, but I nonetheless am a long-time user and great admirer of the extraordinary work of the JETI development team, who undoubtedly did an excellent job providing us with highly reliable and adaptable products.
Some time ago I emailed JETI, regarding a possible extension of their receiver/sensor update program, to work on Mac OS X/Linux machines. My idea was, that maybe reprogramming the whole thing on basis of JAVA would be a viable solution to this issue. However, a quick response merely consisted of putting me off to waiting on “further developments”. This was about two years ago.
In the meantime I was able to get both programs working using WINE (some Windows emulator for UNIX-machines), but had great difficulties to get the USB-driver up and running. Some error messages still emerge in some input log files, hence it does not seem to be a good idea to trust this patchwork.
Last week, while again wasting ages on updating my numerous receivers using my laptop and a 2m extension cable, I spontaneously came up with the following (maybe new) idea:
A JAVA-implementation of the JETI receiver/sensor update program would not only greatly help Mac OS X/Linux users, but would also make this software easily amendable to an ANDROID implementation.
One can then equip one’s (already available) JETI USB-adaptors with the standard smartphone micro USB plug and easily install new updates as one assembles one’s plane/chopper on field using your smartphone. No more messing around with your laptop and sesquipedalian cables!
It should be perfectly clear, that this approach is immensely superior to any updating procedure of any competing RC system out there I have ever heard of.
One could certainly find some other merits of connecting ones smartphone to a receiver/sensor (logfile readout, telemetry, system check, ...).

Re: JAVA/ANDROID receiver/sensor update program
Dear Ludovico,
What an extraordinary idea! I think many users are quite careless when it comes to updating their receivers, which of course contradicts the basic idea of a software update. With such a smartphone app one would then particularly help the technically less motivated users, since there would be no technical obstacles left to be annoyed of. And we (the technically savvy users

Thanks for the hint - I am well aware of the existence of this program and yes, it works flawlessly under Linux. I can definitely recommend the use of JETI Studio to other Linux users out there, who intend to completely avoid Windows on their PCs.
The title of this thread is perhaps a bit misleading, because the intention was to initiate a discussion on the usefulness of a multi-platform (ie. Linux, Mac OS X, Android, iOS, Windows, ...) implementation of the JETI update software, through which one cannot only achieve compatibility with many systems (in particular smartphone operating systems) per definition, but in the same time one can also keep the additional development effort for the JETI development team relatively low, I presume. Whether you actually use the virtualizing programming language JAVA, or others, should definitely be gladly left to the developers at JETI, however.
